*This tricep exercise is pictured on a smith machine, however you can also perform the exercise on a standard weight bench with a barbell.

Exercise Description and Instruction:

This Weight Training Exercise is one of the best tricep exercises because it is one of the few compound tricep exercises. It is a version of the Close Grip Bench Bench Press that uses a Smith Machine to ensure proper range of motion.

To Perform This Exercise:

  1. Place a flat bench in the middle of a Smith Machine.
  2. Using a close grip (about 6 inches apart) unlatch the bar and slowly lower it towards your chest.
  3. Pause just before the bar hits your chest and raise the bar by extending your arms to the staring position.


  1. Keep your elbows closs to your body throughout the exercise.
